Actress Tara Reid was heard slurring and moaning incoherently in the background of a panicked 911 call made from a Chicago-area hotel last month, newly released audio reveals. The incident, which led to the 50-year-old star being rushed to hospital, has taken a dramatic turn after police stated their investigation found no evidence to support her claim that her drink was drugged.
Chaotic Scene Captured in 911 Call
The distressing audio, obtained by the Daily Mail, features a woman believed to be a hotel employee frantically reporting that a "celebrity guest" is "really inebriated." The caller identifies the individual as Tara Reid, stating she is so incapacitated she cannot hold herself up in a wheelchair. In the background, Reid can be heard groaning and mumbling unintelligibly as the employee repeatedly shouts "Ms. Reid!" in a failed attempt to get a response.
The hotel worker assured emergency dispatchers that Reid was not vomiting blood or having difficulty breathing. However, she expressed serious concern that the actress might collapse and hit her head if left unattended. A subsequent dispatch log from when paramedics arrived describes Reid as "the intoxicated female" who was "laying on the floor of the hallway."
Police Investigation Contradicts Initial Claim
The situation took a significant twist this week when the Rosemont Police Department revealed findings from their review of hotel surveillance footage. In a statement, authorities said the video showed no evidence that anyone tampered with or added something to Reid's drink at the DoubleTree hotel bar in Rosemont, Illinois, on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Police added that "a bartender covered her drink when she left the bar which is standard practice," and emphasised there is currently "no evidence" a crime was committed. No one is under investigation. Authorities also noted they are still awaiting hospital records to confirm what specific chemical tests, if any, Reid underwent during her eight-hour hospital stay.
Reid's Response and Past Struggles
Tara Reid has pushed back strongly against the police findings. She told the Daily Mail, "Bottom line is no one ends up in the hospital incapacitated for over 8 hours after a drink." She described the experience as traumatising, stating, "The last thing I remember is having one drink and waking up in the hospital the next day without remembering anything... I believe I was drugged."
A source close to the actress said she is "highly disappointed" with the police conclusion and fears how the incident looks, potentially affecting future work opportunities. The source stressed that Reid is "adamant that she doesn't have a substance problem." This assertion references Reid's past, having sought help for substance abuse in 2008, after which she declared herself "clean and sober."
The incident occurred shortly after Reid split from her boyfriend of six years, music producer Nathan Montpetit-Howard. Friends say she is now "single and ready to mingle" and in a positive place personally, recently receiving acting awards and producing her own films.
Rosemont Police have stated they continue to work with Reid to obtain the relevant medical records as their review remains open.
