Usha Vance Dismisses Divorce Rumours as 'Family Joke' in Rare Interview
Usha Vance Calls Divorce Rumours a 'Family Joke'

Usha Vance, the wife of United States Vice President JD Vance, has publicly addressed persistent speculation about the state of their marriage, dismissing the rumours as baseless and something that has become a 'family joke'.

Addressing the 'Fever Dreams' of Speculation

In a rare interview with USA Today published on Saturday, the former lawyer spoke candidly about the intense scrutiny her personal life has faced since her husband's rise to political prominence. The 39-year-old Second Lady expressed bemusement at how outsiders draw conclusions about her relationship.

"I find that one of the really curious things about this life is that people really like to read the tea leaves, and there's a kind of an industry building stories about everything that they can imagine," Usha Vance stated. She added that while she and the Vice President find humour in the conversations, they do not "find it fruitful" to engage with the gossip.

"I’d rather just sort of live in my marriage and in the real world and less in kind of the fever dreams that surround it," she explained. "So I mean, it is kind of a family joke, but also not something that I spend very much time thinking about."

The Ring and the Rumours: A Timeline

The speculation about marital trouble began in earnest after Vice President JD Vance shared a hug with Erika Kirk at a Turning Point USA event in October. Kirk, who spoke about similarities between the Vice President and her late husband, embraced him on stage.

Shortly afterwards, Usha Vance was photographed without her wedding ring, fuelling further conjecture. When asked about the ring in her recent interview, she offered a straightforward explanation: "I wear it when I wear it, and I don’t when I don’t."

This echoes comments made by her spokesperson last month, who attributed the ringless appearance to the demands of her daily life as a mother of three young children, citing dishwashing and bath times as reasons she sometimes forgets it.

Life in the Political Spotlight

The Vances, who met at Yale Law School, have been married for over a decade, tying the knot in 2014. They are parents to three children: sons Ewan, 8, and Vivek, 5, and daughter Mirabel, 3.

Reflecting on her life before entering the political arena, Usha Vance noted, "There are things that I miss and things that I'm excited to have moved on from." Her comments highlight the significant adjustment required for a family thrust into the relentless glare of the public eye, where every gesture and absence is parsed for hidden meaning.

By directly confronting the rumours, Usha Vance has attempted to draw a line under the speculation, reaffirming the normalcy and strength of her family life away from the political 'fever dreams'.
