An 'awesome' drama is ready to stream in Scotland, featuring stars from Broadchurch and Breaking Bad. Broadchurch's unforgettable first season may have aired 13 years ago, but it is still often described as 'one of the best crime series of all time'. However, some fans may not realise that an American version of Broadchurch came out the following year in 2014, once again starring Doctor Who icon David Tennant.
What is Gracepoint?
Originally airing on Fox, Gracepoint is a 10-part US adaptation of the ITV hit series, following the same gripping investigation into the murder of a 12-year-old boy called Danny in a sleepy seaside town. But there are some key differences, including Tennant's role as a Scottish detective called Alec Hardy in Broadchurch who is switched to American Emmett Carver in Gracepoint. Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman also isn't in Gracepoint as she is replaced by Breaking Bad star Anna Gunn as Detective Ellie Miller. In addition, Danny's killer is also different, so the ending of this US Broadchurch isn't exactly the same either.
How to Watch Gracepoint
Gracepoint is available to stream for free across the UK via Scottish TV broadcaster STV's streaming service STV Player, and it's also available to watch via Prime Video for subscribers.
Viewer Reactions
Taking to IMDb to describe the show as 'vastly underrated', a viewer posted: 'It was captivating, with intriguing characters who all seem kind of guilty. This is an example of a well-made mystery show that doesn't need to show body parts to get better ratings.' Another agreed: 'Gracepoint is the complete package as a murder mystery - excellent direction, compelling cinematography, great script and cast, and outstanding acting. As a fan of the original British production, Broadchurch, it's also fun to watch David Tennant star in both, as a Brit and as an American - both great performances.' Someone else shared that Gracepoint was 'awesome', as a fourth said: 'All the actors were incredible but especially David Tennant, the lead detective, who is both annoying and captivating.' A fellow viewer positively added: 'The acting by the platinum quality cast is solid, the production values are set high above that of any network show... this could have been a high-grade pay channel show… So yes, even as a Broadchurch super-fan I am well pleased with Gracepoint.'
