Eugenie Bouchard Jokingly Fired Live on BBC at Wimbledon

During the BBC's live Wimbledon coverage on Saturday night, commentator Andrew Castle jokingly told former tennis professional Eugenie Bouchard that she was "fired" after she admitted she could not speak Italian. The lighthearted moment occurred while Bouchard was providing courtside analysis of Grigor Dimitrov's third-round match against Matteo Berrettini on Centre Court.

Castle Asks About Italian

As Berrettini vented to his box late in the second set, Castle turned to Bouchard and asked, "Do you speak Italian?" Bouchard, the 2014 ladies' singles finalist, replied, "I do not, but I see a lot going back and forth between Berrettini and his box, which is right behind me. Unfortunately only English and French I can do for you guys."

Bouchard Jokes About Her Job

Castle responded, "I don't know, it's the Italian we're looking for, Genie." Bouchard then teased, "Is that it, am I fired?" Laughter broke out on both sides of the court as Castle said, "That's it, thank you for coming, you're fired." Bouchard concluded, "It was a good run, thank you for having me anyway. I'll just see myself out."

Tim Henman Intervenes

Castle was about to wrap up with "goodbye, enjoy your dinner" when former British tennis star Tim Henman intervened, offering Bouchard support by saying, "Don't do that." The incident was broadcast live on BBC from Wimbledon.
