Two food vloggers recently visited a riverside Wetherspoons in Putney, London, to sample the menu, with one trying the food for the first time after admitting he had "never trusted" the chain. The duo, Joe and Naz, recorded their experience for their YouTube channel, Joe&Naz.
First Impressions
Joe revealed he had already visited 15 Wetherspoons pubs in recent months and had been "converted," finding the food "better" than expected. Naz, despite previous visits, had always avoided the food but decided to give it a chance.
They chose The Rocket, a "flash" pub overlooking the Thames. Joe ordered the Cheese Meltdown burger (£13), loaded with American-style cheese, Emmental, and cheddar cheese sauce. Naz opted for traditional fish and chips with garden peas (£14). Both meals came with complimentary drinks.
Food Quality and Portions
When the food arrived, Joe noted the generous portion size: "The plate's quite conservative, but the food—there's a lot of it. Huge burger, not just chips, onion rings too." Naz commented on the fish's unusual shape, joking it had "legs," but praised the portion size.
After seasoning, Joe described the burger as "dry" but "okay," adding he'd "had worse." Naz found the chips "okay," not "particularly crispy" but "nice enough." Joe preferred the chips over the burger, noting the bun's "very soft, sweet flavour."
The Surprise: Fish and Chips
Naz was pleasantly surprised by the fish: "Fish tastes really good, actually. I was worried it might not be fresh, but it tastes really fresh." Joe agreed, calling it "light" and noting it "melts in your mouth" with a decent amount of fish. Naz concluded: "It's a really decent fish. Nice big portion and tastes really good. I'm quite impressed."
Final Verdict
Naz initially expected to rate the food a five or below, but after tasting, he awarded the fish and chips a seven out of ten. He admitted nothing was "particularly memorable" except the value for money. Joe concurred, giving the fish and chips a seven and the burger a six. The burger and chips rated 6/6.5 overall.
