Naomi Osaka's New Bold French Open Outfit After Criticism

Naomi Osaka has once again turned heads with a bold fashion choice at the French Open, this time donning a metallic gold bomber jacket and an ivory train over her sequined gold playing dress ahead of her second-round match. The Japanese tennis star defeated Croatia's Donna Vekic 7-6, 6-4 on Thursday, securing her place in the third round at Roland Garros.

Osaka's earlier outfit—a custom creation featuring a bodice and long pleated skirt—had drawn criticism from her first-round opponent, Laura Siegemund, who complained about the time it took for Osaka to remove the layers before play began. Undeterred, Osaka explained her fashion philosophy, saying she enjoys keeping people “on their toes” and views athletes as entertainers. She compared her sparkling dress to the illuminated Eiffel Tower.

This marks the first time since 2019 that Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, has reached the third round at the French Open. She has never advanced past this stage in her career. With her unique style and on-court performance, Osaka continues to make a statement both in fashion and tennis.
