Cyberpunk 2077 Set to Dominate Xbox Game Pass This Month
Xbox Game Pass subscribers are poised for a major gaming treat later in March, as Microsoft strongly teases the addition of Cyberpunk 2077, one of the generation's most acclaimed role-playing games, to its subscription service. Although an official announcement has not yet been made, the tech giant has dropped a series of not-so-subtle hints that all but confirm the game's imminent arrival.
Microsoft's Cryptic Clues Point to Cyberpunk Inclusion
In a recent post on social media platform X, Microsoft shared a mock-up email from a fictional account named 'Melissa McGamePass'. The message read: "We've got a new game to add! I know we've added a ton of great games already, but you know what? There's no such thing as too many games on Xbox Game Pass. So many breathtaking worlds to explore... This latest upcoming addition is gonna be v good one too."
The phrase "breathtaking worlds to explore" appears to be a direct callback to actor Keanu Reeves' famous "You're breathtaking" moment during the Cyberpunk 2077 release date reveal at E3 2019. To further underscore the reference, Microsoft bolded the letter 'v' in "v good one", a clear nod to the game's protagonist, who is named V.
Uncertainties Surround Game Pass Version and Release Date
It remains unclear whether Xbox Game Pass will offer access to just the base game of Cyberpunk 2077 or include the Phantom Liberty expansion as well. Additionally, no specific release date has been provided, though industry expectations suggest a mid-March drop, aligning with typical service updates.
This move follows a recent influx of significant titles on Game Pass, including the RPG Kingdom Come Deliverance and the upcoming Planet of Lana 2, set to launch imminently. While Cyberpunk 2077 became available on PlayStation Plus last year, its addition to Xbox Game Pass will finally allow Xbox gamers to experience the cybernetic action at a reduced cost through subscription.
Boosting CDProjekt Red's Portfolio Amid Development Projects
The inclusion of Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Game Pass is likely to satisfy fans of developer CDProjekt Red, who have been awaiting new content since the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023. The studio is currently focused on developing The Witcher 4, which, while highly anticipated, lacks a confirmed release date. Simultaneously, a second Cyberpunk game, codenamed 'Orion', is in the works, with CDProjekt RED actively staffing offices in Boston to advance the project.
This strategic addition to Game Pass not only enhances the service's library but also keeps the gaming community engaged with CDProjekt Red's evolving portfolio, bridging the gap until future releases.
