A beloved role-playing game from 2018 is reportedly set to receive a substantial technical enhancement on PlayStation 5 hardware later this year, according to a recent leak from the PlayStation Store.
Leaked Details Point to Major Visual Overhaul
The digital storefront briefly displayed updated information for Kingdom Come: Deliverance before it was swiftly removed. According to the gaming publication InsiderGaming, the text stated explicitly: "The PS5 version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance now features graphical updates including 4K resolution, improved framerate, high-resolution textures and many more. Medieval Bohemia has never been so beautiful."
From 1080p/30fps to 4K/60fps
This represents a significant leap forward for the acclaimed historical RPG. Currently, the PlayStation 5 runs the original 2018 release through backwards compatibility at a locked 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second. The leaked upgrade would bring it much more in line with the performance profile of its critically praised sequel, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which launched last year.
The sequel offers players on PS5 a choice between a 1440p performance mode targeting 60fps and an upscaled 4K mode running at a locked 30fps. It is anticipated that the original game's update will provide a similar 60fps performance mode alongside its new 4K capabilities.
Why Revisit the Original in 2026?
For players who experienced the sequel and are curious about the series' roots, or for those who never played the first title, this update makes a compelling case. Kingdom Come Deliverance stunned players upon its initial release with its:
- Immersive historical setting: A stunningly realised 15th century Bohemia.
- Deep role-playing systems: Mechanics that heavily prioritise meaningful player choice and consequence.
- Challenging survival elements: Brutal and realistic combat and survival gameplay that harkened back to classic RPGs like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
While the sequel continues the story, the first game remains a complete and highly rewarding standalone experience. This visual overhaul will only enhance its enduring appeal.
Official Confirmation and Platform Availability
Developer Warhorse Studios has not yet officially announced this upgrade through its standard communication channels, and the update is not currently available for download. The leak strongly suggests an official reveal and release is planned for the near future.
There is no confirmation yet on whether the graphical enhancements will also come to the Xbox Series X version of the game. However, given the studio's history of supporting both major platforms, it seems highly probable that an update would not be exclusive to one console.
A Perfect Stopgap for RPG Fans
With major upcoming titles like Crimson Desert and the Fable reboot still on the horizon, this enhanced version of Kingdom Come Deliverance presents a perfect opportunity for role-playing game enthusiasts. Players can revisit or discover this gritty medieval classic, experiencing its rich world and narrative in stunning 4K detail while awaiting the next generation of blockbuster RPGs.
