Morrissey Axes Valencia Performance Amid Festival Noise Disruption
Morrissey, the iconic 66-year-old musician, has cancelled his scheduled concert in Valencia, Spain, citing severe sleep deprivation that left him in what he described as a 'catatonic state'. The cancellation occurred after he arrived in the city late on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, following a two-day road journey from Milan.
Noise from Las Fallas Festival Blamed for Disruption
A statement posted on Morrissey's official website, Morrissey Central, detailed the ordeal. It explained that any attempt at sleep or rest was rendered impossible due to persistent noise from the Las Fallas festival, including loud techno music and megaphone announcements. The statement read: 'Any form of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to festival noise/ loud techno singing/ megaphone announcements. This experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state.'
Subsequently, a follow-up message confirmed the gig would not proceed, clarifying: 'Tonight's scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation. Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise. The show is not cancelled. Circumstances render the show impossible.'
Fans React with Humour to Cancellation
On social media, fans responded with light-hearted comments, referencing Morrissey's reputation for last-minute gig cancellations. One user quipped: '3 things certain in life.. death...taxes and morrisey cancelling a gig', while others expressed empathy, such as: 'I can relate. Rest well Moz.'
Morrissey himself described his hotel experience as an 'indescribable hell', adding: 'It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement.'
History of Tour Cancellations Continues
This incident adds to a pattern of cancellations on Morrissey's current tour, which has already seen six dates axed, including a show in St. Petersburg, Florida, in January due to 'artist illness'. At that time, Ticketmaster issued refunds to affected fans, with processing times of 14-21 days.
Looking ahead, Morrissey is slated to perform in Zaragoza on March 14 and Seville on March 16, though it remains uncertain if these shows will proceed as planned.
