Naomi Osaka has shared details about her show-stopping outfit at the Met Gala, describing it as feeling like she had "a 20-pound vest on." The tennis star, who was speaking at the Italian Open on Friday, called the event "the Grand Slam for all fashion."
Heavy but Worth It
"My outfit was so heavy," Osaka said, now back in her tennis attire. "I felt like I had like a 20-pound vest on. But I just kept trying to tell myself to have good posture because tennis players ... sometimes we hunch over a lot."
The Outfit
At Monday's event in New York, Osaka stunned in an edgy Robert Wun white sculptural fitted dress with exaggerated shoulders, adorned with red feathers and a matching headpiece. She completed the look with two-toned red gloves. A similar design by Wun is featured in the Met's Costume Institute exhibit, "Costume Art."
On the red carpet, Osaka opened her dress and removed her headpiece for a grand reveal, showcasing a sleek red beaded gown embellished with human anatomy motifs.
Balancing Tennis and Fashion
Osaka attended the Gala between tournaments in Madrid and Rome. "I really love fashion and that's like the Grand Slam for all fashion, and just to put myself out there and try to socialize," she said after her opening victory at the Foro Italico, where she beat Eva Lys 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Currently ranked No. 16, Osaka is a former world No. 1 and has won four Grand Slam titles.
