Apprentice Candidate Tanmay Hingorani Denounces 'Unfair' Boardroom Sacking

The latest fired candidate from BBC's The Apprentice has launched a scathing critique of his dismissal, branding it as 'unfair and disappointing' after Lord Sugar sent him packing from the competition. Tanmay Hingorani, who was eliminated in the third episode of the new series, argues that he 'took the bullet' for fellow contestant Megan Ruiter during the intense boardroom showdown.

Chicken and Egg Challenge Sparks Boardroom Drama

In Thursday's episode, the candidates were tasked with a poultry-themed challenge, requiring them to hatch a plan to turn chicken and eggs into profit. One team received 25 kilos of chicken, while the other was given 25 kilos of eggs, with the goal of creating dishes to serve to the public and corporate clients. The negotiation at the corporate event, however, went sour, leading to Tanmay Hingorani, Megan Ruiter, and team leader Carrington Saunders facing Lord Sugar's scrutiny.

Carrington quickly blamed the team's loss on the negotiation handled by Tanmay and Megan, who subsequently battled it out in the boardroom. Lord Sugar ultimately pointed the finger at Tanmay for securing a low deal, making him the fourth candidate to exit the show.

Tanmay Insists Megan Should Have Been Fired

Now, Tanmay has hit back, asserting that Megan should have been the one to take the fall. He explained, 'When we went into the negotiation, I was looking forward to it - I see negotiation as an art form, but that negotiation didn't become a nice piece of art.' He detailed how Karishma set the tempo with a monologue, followed by Megan establishing a price ceiling of £12, leading him to shake hands on £11.80 in an attempt to salvage the deal.

'I am disappointed for it to end this way... I did take the bullet in the boardroom and I do think it was unfair. But you win some and you lose some,' Tanmay lamented. He further shifted blame to Megan, stating, 'I don't think I deserved it - at the time, sitting in the boardroom, it was a lot closer and I remember in the moment thinking it could probably go either way. Looking back, it should have been Megan. I don’t think there is even an argument for it to have been anyone else.'

Reflections and Lessons Learned

When asked if he would have done anything differently, Tanmay admitted, 'Well, I wouldn’t have shaken the corporate client's hand! I would have just let Megan continue walking the line she was on. When that ceiling was set by Megan, I should have had a bit more self-awareness and pulled the group back.' He acknowledged that leadership sometimes requires pausing momentum to realign on goals, especially when decisions impact value.

Despite the setback, Tanmay highlighted the positive takeaways from his experience. 'I have learnt that I can probably do anything now. I think I was already confident, but it has given me more confidence that I can do anything I want to do. I can put my mind to it and do it,' he said. He also noted improved skills in working with diverse personalities and reading people, which he believes will benefit him in future business endeavours.

Backing Kieran McCartney for Victory

In a show of solidarity, Tanmay placed his backing behind co-star Kieran McCartney to win the competition. 'I personally would hire Kieran because I think he has had a bit of a character arc, in my opinion. He has come out as this boisterous character but I think it is rare to have the gift of the gab, which Keiran has,' he remarked. Tanmay praised Kieran's charisma and personality, adding that he is a 'big softy' who often cleaned their shared room on days off.

The Apprentice continues to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer every Thursday at 9pm, with more boardroom drama and business challenges ahead.
