Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor appeared downcast today as he drove around the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, with a lonely Easter holiday looming for the former prince. He is anticipated to move into his permanent residence, Marsh Farm, within the coming weeks, but faces the festive period isolated after his arrest in February.
Renovations and Relocation Underway
Since early February, Andrew has been residing at Wood Farm in Wolferton while extensive renovations are completed at Marsh Farm. Builders have been working tirelessly to prepare the property, installing luxury carpets, a Sky television dish, a high-speed broadband connection, and a six-foot security fence. In recent weeks, hundreds of boxes containing his belongings, many marked with HRH (His Royal Highness), have been delivered to the site.
Andrew was photographed behind the wheel of his Range Rover, wearing a maroon cable-knit jumper, with his security guard seated beside him in the passenger seat. This sighting comes as he maintains a low profile in Norfolk following his arrest by Thames Valley Police on February 19, his 66th birthday, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was released under investigation, and the probe remains ongoing.
Royal Family Easter Plans Without Andrew
Andrew is expected to remain in Norfolk over Easter and will not attend the Royal Family's traditional service at Windsor this year. The Easter Sunday gathering typically includes only members of The Firm and their engaged or married partners. While the Prince and Princess of Wales are anticipated to join the King and Queen in Windsor, Andrew's daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, have reportedly made alternative plans for the holiday.
Sources emphasize that Beatrice and Eugenie remain integral to the family and will be seen at future celebrations, but their absence from the Easter lineup underscores the tensions surrounding Andrew's situation. It is unclear whether other key royals, such as Zara and Mike Tindall or Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling, will attend.
Controversial Activities and Family Strains
Despite the investigation, Andrew was spotted over the weekend inspecting horses near his home, despite aides reportedly urging him to cease riding. Concerns were raised that it would be a bad look for him to be seen enjoying himself while under police scrutiny for misconduct in public office.
Before relocating to Sandringham, Andrew was frequently seen horse riding around Windsor. His cheerful public interactions, including waving and greeting members of the public while riding near Royal Lodge on January 31, may have been the final straw in a turbulent period. King Charles subsequently moved him out of Royal Lodge, hours after these appearances, amid continued outrage over Andrew's links to Jeffrey Epstein, to whom he has been accused of leaking secrets.
Last week, Andrew was also observed driving from Wood Farm to Marsh Farm with his security guard and dog to inspect the renovation progress. As Easter approaches, the former prince's subdued demeanor and isolated plans highlight the ongoing challenges he faces amidst legal and familial pressures.
