Colin Gallacher, 58, who works in operations for a cleaning company, recalls the day vividly. A devoted football fan supporting Carlisle, he regularly traveled 44 miles from his home in Hawick to watch matches. On one particular occasion in 2023, he arrived at Carlisle bus station early, with three hours to spare before a game against Fleetwood. "Sat on the bus, there was a spare seat next to me," Colin explains. "And lady luck was clearly shining down on me that day, because Kelly took the seat. She said she was going shopping." Kelly, 48, who works in mental health for a care home, had recently moved to Carlisle from Norfolk and was not looking for romance. However, as they struck up a conversation, an undeniable connection formed.
From Conversation to Commitment
Colin, who has two grown-up children, Ryan, 28, and Ross, 33, was instantly captivated by Kelly's beauty and warmth. The couple's bond deepened through romantic weekend trips and travels, including a visit to Croatia. In January of the following year, Colin proposed in a heartfelt moment, tying a ring box around Kai's neck while Kelly was in the shower. Kelly reflects on their meeting with joy: "I was very recently single when I hopped aboard the bus to Carlisle city centre, and not looking for anything romantic—especially not on a bus. But that day, sat side by side, something magical happened." She notes that the bus was busy, with few seats available, and she chose to sit next to Colin because he smiled at her. "I got butterflies in my stomach when he asked if I wanted to go for a drink," she adds.
Overcoming Challenges and Building a Future
Their relationship has not been without challenges, such as the loss of Kai at age 14 and a half, which devastated Colin. Kelly provided unwavering support during this time, strengthening their bond. Today, the couple enjoys exploring the countryside, often traveling by train to destinations like Dumfries or Lockerbie, and dreams of growing old by the sea.
Kelly describes their connection as "undeniable," with sexual chemistry "off the charts," akin to a Mills & Boon novel. She admits initial nerves about Colin bringing a dog, but both fit perfectly into her life. "Our wedding was perfect—the happiest day," she says. "And the joy has continued ever since."
