Shania Twain Surprises Fans with Mumford and Sons at BST Hyde Park
Shania Twain Joins Mumford and Sons at Hyde Park

Shania Twain made a surprise appearance on stage in Hyde Park with Mumford and Sons on Saturday, just hours after opening for Harry Styles. The US star raced across London to perform with the British band shortly after opening for the One Direction star on the final night of his record-breaking run at Wembley Stadium.

Mumford's 'Cheeky Surprise'

Front man Marcus Mumford told the crowd at BST Hyde Park festival he had a “cheeky surprise” before welcoming Twain for a duet on the song Here, usually performed with country star Chris Stapleton. He told fans: “She is my f****** hero. You don’t get it, this is a very big deal for me. She played Wembley Stadium tonight and she’s here.”

Twain replied: “What are we going to do now? Are we going to jam out?” The pair then launched into a rendition of Twain’s hit Man! I Feel Like A Woman! while Mumford bounced round the stage playing a tambourine.

First Hyde Park Show in a Decade

Mumford, who is married to actress Carey Mulligan, took to the stage with his band in Hyde Park for the first time in 10 years. The group played a raucous two-hour set, with the singer declaring: “After all the time, in our home town, we didn’t come to f*** about.” The set included hits I Will Wait, Little Lion Man and The Cave.

Mumford said: “There’s so much to talk about, it’s been such a long time. But I’m mainly going to talk about football. Much as they try, f****** yanks don’t get it.” He continued: “Each and every song started in this city. Our relationships started in this city. We spend a lot of time in the States but this is our home and there is nothing like being home.”

Hozier Also Surprises Crowd

Earlier in the show, fans were treated to a surprise appearance from Hozier, who joined the band for a rendition of Rubber Band Man and Awake My Soul. BST Hyde Park continues on Sunday with a headline set from Duran Duran.
