In House of the Dragon season 3, episode 2, Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) is left in a precarious position after being stabbed at Harrenhal, begging Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin) for help. Fans are desperate to know if the show's biggest villain survives, but based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, his death is clearly outlined.
The Battle Above the Gods Eye
According to Fire & Blood, Aemond and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) engaged in a battle above Harrenhal. The two Targaryens fought on their dragons, with Daemon leaping from Caraxes onto Aemond's dragon Vhagar. Daemon then killed Aemond with his sword as both men plunged into the Gods Eye Lake. Neither uncle, nephew, nor dragon survived the battle.
A Wiki of Ice and Fire states that while Aemond's body was found in the water, Daemon's corpse was never located. Rumors suggested Daemon survived and lived with his lover Nettles, but historians believe he was carried away by currents and eaten by fish.
Helaena's Prophecy
In season 2, Helaena Targaryen (Phia Saban) warned Aemond he would be "swallowed up by the Gods Eye and never seen again," confirming his death. Given the accuracy of Helaena's predictions, this likely foreshadows Aemond's fate. However, the show may diverge from the source material as it has previously.
Fan Reactions
Fans on X reacted to Aemond's near-death experience. One user said, "aemond suffering and groveling from a wound was satisfying ngl i can't stand him." Another wrote, "attention to everyone to do not help him that's exactly what he deserve." A third commented, "Aemond learned the hard way that he is just a mortal with a dragon, and like all other mortals, he bleeds."
