Corrie star warns of 'unraveling' for David and Shona after Corriedale

In an exclusive revelation, Coronation Street star Julia Goulding has warned fans that the lives of her character, Shona Platt, and her on-screen husband David will completely 'unravel' in the dramatic aftermath of the soap's historic crossover with Emmerdale.

The Fallout from a Phenomenal Crossover

Goulding, who plays the pregnant Shona, spoke to The Mirror about the consequences of the hour-long special event dubbed 'Corriedale', which airs next week. The episode is confirmed to feature a major crash, a death, and will see the worlds of Weatherfield and the Dales violently collide.

"Imagine David and Shona and their life is a ball of wool," the actress teased. "Imagine what would happen if a cat got hold of it, it would unravel." This stark metaphor hints at months of turmoil ahead for the popular couple, who are already facing immense stress over the health of their unborn child.

Danger, Stunts, and an Iconic Meeting

Shona is directly caught up in the central crash horror, with pictures showing Emmerdale's Jacob Gallagher checking her over. Goulding confirmed she performed her own stunt for the sequence, wearing a harness and joking she felt "like Lara Croft".

The filming also led to a memorable encounter with Emmerdale icon Emma Atkins, who plays Charity Dingle. "When I read I was gonna do a scene with Emma I was elated," Goulding shared. She revealed that just as Charity takes Shona under her wing in the story, Atkins did the same for her off-camera, with the two pregnant actors bonding between intense dramatic takes.

A Blend of Drama and Classic Soap Humour

Despite the impending doom for David and Shona, Goulding promises the Corriedale episode itself will not be without lighter moments. She praised the writing, noting that "humour runs through it like Blackpool rock", whether it's dark humour or moments of levity during the challenging six weeks of night shoots.

The actress was full of praise for the ambitious project, calling it "phenomenal" and stating firmly, "I absolutely don't think anyone is gonna see what is coming in this episode." She emphasised that both soaps remained true to their distinct identities while working seamlessly together, making the filming experience in Leeds feel "like being at home".

With a confirmed death, high-stakes danger for Shona and her baby, and a promise of long-term consequences, Coronation Street fans are set for a gripping start to 2026. The fallout will begin to unfold when the special episode airs, with the Platt family's resilience set to be tested like never before.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
