Liam Gallagher has described the forthcoming Oasis reunion documentary as a 'romantic comedy,' promising fans a film filled with love and rock 'n' roll rather than tears. The 53-year-old frontman spoke out after plans for the tour documentary to be screened in cinemas worldwide were announced.
Liam's Light-Hearted Tease
'People asking me what the documentary's like, it's a ROMANTIC COMEDY with a bit of ROCK N ROLL,' Gallagher wrote on social media. The film, directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace and produced by Oscar-nominated writer Steven Knight, will feature the first joint interview between Liam and his brother Noel in more than 25 years. It also includes unseen footage from rehearsals and backstage clips from their hugely successful Oasis Live '25 world tour.
A Sky Blue Carpet Premiere
Looking ahead to the premiere, Liam said they would be rolling out a 'sky blue' carpet in tribute to their beloved Manchester City. When a fan asked if he would be seen crying with Noel in the documentary, the singer replied: 'BIG GIRLS don't cry.'
Noel's Emotional Return
Noel, 58, previously admitted he was 'completely blown away' by the response from fans as they returned to the stage after 16 years. 'I grossly underestimated what I was getting into. After about five minutes into the first concert in Cardiff, I was like, alright can I just go back to the dressing room and start this again?' he said. 'I've done stadiums before and all that but I don't mind telling you, my legs had turned to jelly after about halfway through the second song. And I could have done with going back and taking a minute. But it's been an amazing thing.'
Steven Knight's Vision
Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, said: 'I genuinely cannot wait for the world to see this film. I believe it captures the spirit and emotion of a global cultural moment and does justice to the wit and genius of two exceptional people. I wanted to tell the story of the brothers and the band but, just as important, the story of the fans whose lives the music has touched and sometimes changed forever. It is also the story of how music and songwriting can unite generations, cultures, countries, and, in a time of spite and division, give us all some reason to hope.'
Release Details
The documentary opens in select IMAX and cinemas worldwide from September 11, and will stream exclusively on Disney+ internationally and on Hulu and Disney+ in the US later this year. The Oasis reunion tour was announced in August 2024, 15 years after their dramatic split in 2009, which was prompted by a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival. The band have had eight number one singles and albums each in the UK chart, with 'Wonderwall,' 'Champagne Supernova,' and 'Some Might Say' among their most well-known hits.
