Ronni Ancona denies Bea redemption in EastEnders finale

EastEnders villain Bea Pollard, played by Ronni Ancona, was arrested after holding Honey Mitchell hostage, but the actress has confirmed that her character will reject any chance of redemption in upcoming scenes.

Bea's Downfall and Arrest

In dramatic episodes aired on July 7, Bea's manipulative reign ended when she was taken away in handcuffs. The storyline climaxed at a remote Kent cottage where Bea held Honey captive. With help from Linda Carter, Nicola, and Suki Panesar-Unwin, Honey escaped, but Bea attempted to kill Billy Mitchell before being overpowered.

Ronni Ancona described the finale as a blend of 'Single White Female,' 'Gone Girl,' and 'Misery.' She added: 'It's quite an ending!'

No Redemption for Bea

When asked if Bea could be redeemed, Ancona stated: 'Bea is offered a chance of redemption and to admit the folly of her ways but it's clear that this isn't going to happen. She's just going to do the whole thing again. She becomes camper by the moment!'

Ancona, who was originally approached to play the 'delusional' character, emphasized the nuance: 'I didn't want to play her as just the villain. She genuinely thinks she's right. ... Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to become Bea.'

Future Return Possible?

Although filming has wrapped, Ancona left the door open for a comeback: 'I had such a lovely time with her. She was so delicious to play, so never say never!'

The actress, known for her impression work on 'The Big Impression,' noted that joining EastEnders was 'terrifying for about 10 minutes' before the cast welcomed her. She has two films upcoming: 'Think of England' (a World War II drama) and 'Fortitude' starring Nicholas Cage, Michael Sheen, and Sir Ben Kingsley.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One or streams from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
