Gardener shares simple hack to kill gravel weeds using boiling water

A gardener has shared a simple and eco-friendly method for killing weeds on gravel driveways and paths, using nothing more than boiling water. The tip, posted on the Loving Your Garden Facebook page, advises against using harsh chemicals and instead suggests pouring hot water directly onto the weeds.

Jessie Rothwell explained that the method works best on hot days when the weeds are thirsty, causing them to wilt quickly. She noted that while she feels for any bugs that may be underneath, it is better than poisoning the soil and surrounding atmosphere.

The technique involves boiling a kettle or pot of water, carefully transporting it to the affected area, and pouring it over the weeds while avoiding nearby plants. For stubborn weeds, a second application may be needed the following day. Once the weeds have withered, they can be easily removed.

Group members praised the method, with Anne Condor saying it kills weeds quickly and keeps them away. However, some cautioned that removing the entire root is essential to prevent regrowth. Andrew Smart warned that if the root is not pulled out, the weed will return regardless of hot water treatment.
