BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt has disclosed that he previously suffered from gout, describing the condition as 'extraordinarily painful'. He made the revelation during a conversation with Dr Amrit Ryatt on the programme.
The discussion followed a study indicating that one in 40 people in the UK is affected by gout, a disease caused by a build-up of uric acid in the blood. Stayt shared his personal experience to highlight the prevalence and severity of the condition.
Gout is a form of arthritis characterised by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, and redness in the joints, often affecting the big toe. The condition can be managed through medication and lifestyle changes.
