Tom Holland has revealed that his dyslexia is the primary reason he has consistently declined offers to host Saturday Night Live (SNL). The English actor admitted he is 'petrified' by the prospect of reading cue cards live on air, explaining that his dyslexia causes a 'mental block' when reading aloud.
Fear of Live Reading
Despite his admiration for SNL, Holland expressed fear of the live reading requirement. 'I can read fine, but when changes are thrown at me, it becomes a struggle,' he said. The actor noted that the fast-paced environment of live television exacerbates his condition, making it a daunting challenge.
Role in 'The Odyssey'
Holland also discussed his upcoming role in Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of The Odyssey. He described it as 'one of the most challenging jobs' he has ever undertaken but praised Nolan as 'an absolute dream' to work with. The actor highlighted the intense preparation required for the role, which pushed him to new limits.
Support from Zendaya
The actor emphasized the crucial support he receives from his partner, Zendaya, calling her 'the best actor going' and a 'lifeline' in navigating the demands of the industry. 'She helps me stay grounded and focused,' Holland added, noting that her guidance has been invaluable in managing his career and personal challenges.
Holland's candid remarks shed light on the realities of living with dyslexia in the high-pressure world of entertainment, while also showcasing his resilience and dedication to his craft.
