The wife of the late TV doctor Michael Mosley has described an 'eerie' moment in their family home that she interprets as a poignant message from her husband.

A Sweet Sign From Beyond

Dr Clare Bailey Mosley was working in the study of their home when she experienced the unusual incident. She recounted to Good Housekeeping Live how her husband, known for his love of chocolate, would regularly hide sweet treats around the house.

"I stood up from the desk and there was a loud clunk," Clare recalled. "It was just an enormous bar of chocolate that had fallen off the shelves. It was slightly eerie. It was a message from Michael."

Michael Mosley tragically died in June 2024 while on holiday with his wife on the Greek island of Symi. The physician had decided to embark on a two-mile walk to a neighbouring town. His remains were discovered four days later on a rocky stretch of terrain near a private resort called Agia Marina.

Processing a Profound Loss

An inquest into his death concluded that the cause was "unascertainable", likely due to either heat stroke or a non-identified pathological cause.

Clare recently admitted she is still considering therapy to help process her husband's death. "I feel I need to have time to do it," she told The Telegraph. "It's next on my list. I'm not going just because everyone tells me I should."

Instead, she has created her own informal grief support network. "I do have friends I see. There are two other [widowed] women nearby so we often meet up. We call ourselves 'the three merry widows'. Although I don't use the word 'widow' unless I have to. I feel a bit awkward about the word itself. It just reminds me of what I've lost."

Continuing a Legacy of Health

Clare and Michael's son, Jack, who is also a doctor, joked about his father's fondness for chocolate. "He had a chocolate addiction," Jack said. "Dad believed that willpower was somewhat overrated."

Despite their profound loss, Clare and Jack have vowed to continue Michael's important work in health and nutrition. They have already written three books on healthy eating: Food Noise, Eating Together, and The Fast 800 Favourites.

"Michael would have been so proud of Jack," Clare told Good Housekeeping Live. "And I'm incredibly proud of how the family came together after we lost him, because it was a really traumatic experience. But we all pulled together."
