Harry Redknapp has shared an update on his hearing loss diagnosis, which he described as 'dangerous' after his wife Sandra urged him to get tested. The former football manager and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! champion, now 79, revealed he was diagnosed with hearing loss earlier this year and now wears hearing aids, though he frequently forgets to use them.
Diagnosis came as a surprise
Speaking exclusively to us at Shoreditch's Ruffians Barber Shop for World Cuts, a football-inspired activation from Viagogo and Ruffian, Redknapp admitted he often leaves his hearing aids at home. 'I've come out to go into London and I've left my hearing aids at home,' he said. 'Yeah, I haven't had them in lately, it's so stupid ain't it. I had them on charge and came out without them!' He added, 'I'm okay without them, yeah, I can survive, I'm not too bad.'
Reflecting on the diagnosis, he said: 'I didn't even think I had a problem until I went for a hearing test and then they said, "Oh you're way down", so that's why I got them really.'
Wife Sandra noticed the issue
Redknapp had previously described his hearing difficulties as 'dangerous', referencing incidents like leaving his car indicators on while driving. Appearing on This Morning with Sandra, he confessed: 'It could've caused accidents.' Sandra added: 'He used to say I was whispering when I wasn't whispering. Then, if we went out for dinner and there was a group of people, I could sense that he wasn't hearing the conversation or joining in.'
Keeping busy in retirement
Nearing his 80th birthday, Redknapp said he has no plans to slow down. 'Yeah touch wood, we're all good! I like to keep busy, waking up to something to do everyday is good,' he explained. However, another reality TV appearance is off the table. After reaching the final of I'm a Celebrity... South Africa 2026, won by Adam Thomas, Redknapp said: 'I've had enough of them now. It was good fun but no, I was asked to do Strictly years ago and I didn't want to do it really.'
