Strictly Come Dancing finalist John Whaite has revealed that his 16-stone muscular build helped save his life when he was run over by a car in a near-fatal accident. The 34-year-old former Bake Off winner was rushed to hospital after the incident, which he described as terrifying.
Whaite, who found fame on The Great British Bake Off before competing on Strictly, said the driver mounted the pavement and hit him. He believes his substantial muscle mass prevented more serious injury, stating that a smaller person might not have survived.
The dancer and TV personality has since been recovering at home, crediting his gym routine for his survival. He urged others to prioritise fitness, noting that his strength training likely made the difference between life and death.
Whaite's accident comes months after his successful stint on Strictly, where he partnered with professional dancer Johannes Radebe. The pair made history as the show's first all-male couple.
