Mel B Shares Personal Menopause Journey and Health Impact
Mel B, the iconic Spice Girl, has candidly revealed how experiencing menopause significantly affected her health, describing it as a challenging process that 'took a toll'. In an exclusive announcement, the 50-year-old singer has been named the new brand ambassador for Revive Collagen's Menopause range, using her platform to speak openly about her own struggles.
Understanding Menopause and Its Symptoms
Menopause is a natural biological phase marking the end of menstrual cycles, typically occurring between ages 45 and 55. Common symptoms include hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, and irritability, with up to 48 potential symptoms reported by medical experts. Mel B detailed her personal experience, stating, 'I've been through my own menopause journey. Hot sweats, night sweats. Then you're cold, then you forget what you've gone downstairs for, then you go back upstairs and it's ongoing. God it takes its toll. I think there's something like 48 symptoms. I've more or less had nearly all of them at some point.'
She emphasised the importance of education and empowerment for women, adding, 'This is why it's important to educate ourselves because us as women we need to take control over this. Do ourselves justice and make it easier and more simple for us, right?'
Revive Collagen's Wellness Campaign and Brand Growth
Mel B joins existing Revive Collagen ambassador Amanda Holden as part of the brand's expanding roster of influential female voices advocating for women's wellbeing. The accompanying photoshoot for the ambassador announcement saw Mel hark back to her Scary Spice era, showcasing her age-defying figure in silk leopard print pyjamas, a glamorous furry coat, a shimmering lilac minidress, and a dark purple nightie and robe.
Revive Collagen, founded in August 2020 by former TOWIE star Samantha Faiers and business manager John Bailey, has rapidly become Europe's fastest-growing collagen brand, specialising in ready-to-drink liquid collagen supplements. The brand has attracted significant star power, enlisting celebrities like Amanda Holden and A-list hair stylist Chris Appleton, known for working with Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.
Spice Girls Reunion Tour Cancellation Context
This announcement comes amid news that the Spice Girls' 30th Anniversary tour has been axed, following failed agreements among bandmates Mel B, Geri Horner, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Victoria Beckham on plans for a comeback. Mel B responded sassily on Instagram, posting a bikini photo with the caption 'kiss my a*s' and stating she was 'walking away from the noise', though she later shared an old group picture with hopeful undertones.
Mel C confirmed there is currently no reunion in the works, expressing optimism for future possibilities. So far, only a collectible coin from the Royal Mint has been announced to mark the anniversary, with Daily Mail reaching out for comment from Spice Girls representatives.
Medical Insights into Menopause
According to NHS guidance, menopause occurs when a woman stops having periods and can no longer conceive naturally, typically between 45 and 55 years old, though 1 in 100 women experience premature menopause before age 40. Symptoms often begin months or years before periods cease and can last around four years after the last period, including hot flushes, night sweats, low mood, reduced sex drive, vaginal dryness, increased facial hair, and sleep difficulties. The cause of premature menopause is often unclear, highlighting the need for awareness and support.
