EastEnders Actress Michelle Collins Hospitalised After Painful Fall
Michelle Collins, the 63-year-old actress famed for playing villain Cindy Beale on BBC's EastEnders, was spotted using crutches on Tuesday after being rushed to A&E over the weekend. The incident occurred when she attempted to prevent her pet dog from bolting out the door, resulting in a severe knee injury.
Accident Details and Hospital Visit
Collins revealed she 'bashed her knee' badly while staying with friends in Norfolk, leading to cuts and bruises. She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Norfolk, where she received treatment and shared photos of herself in a wheelchair and wearing a leg brace. Despite the hospital's low ranking on league tables, Collins praised the staff for their 'great' and 'efficient' service, noting their kindness and professionalism.
In a social media post, she wrote: 'Staff were great, #efficient #kind despite apparently very low on hospital league table I would never have known from the service I got. Seems so unfair to label a hospital like this not great for morale as one of the lovely nurses said.' She also thanked her local hospital, Finchley Memorial Hospital, for their support.
Public Appearance and Recovery
Photographs captured Collins looking in discomfort as she hobbled along a road using crutches before climbing into her car. For the outing, she wore a brown roll-neck jumper and black midi skirt under a long leather trench coat, paired with flat slip-on shoes and chunky sunglasses. The actress joked that she would have to film her upcoming EastEnders scenes 'sitting down' due to the injury.
Emotional Tribute to Beloved Dog
During her trip to Norfolk, Collins also scattered the ashes of her rescue dog, Humphrey, who passed away last month after 16 years. She shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, describing him as a 'steadfast companion' who brought joy to her life and that of her husband. Collins wrote: 'I cannot begin to describe how much joy he has brought into our lives... Today Mike said to me, "my world was just a better place with him in it and I feel lost".'
She added that Humphrey had visited retirement homes and hospitals, spreading smiles with his gentle nature. The actress concluded her post with a poignant message: 'Humphrey Collins a.k.a The Humph "You were my favourite hello and my hardest goodbye".'
Collins' injury highlights the challenges of balancing personal life with a demanding acting career, while her praise for hospital staff underscores ongoing debates about healthcare ratings and morale in the NHS.
