Great North Air Ambulance Responds to 15 Incidents

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) experienced a demanding weekend, with its critical care team responding to 15 incidents between Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28. Of these, eight occurred in the North East, six in Cumbria, and one in Scotland.

Types of Incidents Attended

The incidents included three falls, three assaults, two road traffic collisions, two medical incidents, two sport and leisure incidents, and three others. The GNAAS provided details on four of these incidents, all located in County Durham.

Assault in Murton

On Saturday, the team was activated at 1:17 pm following reports of an assault in Murton. A paramedic and doctor aboard the aircraft arrived on scene at 1:28 pm. According to a GNAAS spokesperson, "Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient. The patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."

Road Traffic Collision Near Wolsingham

Simultaneously, at 1:23 pm, the team was called to a road traffic collision on the A689 near Wolsingham. The aircraft arrived at 1:37 pm. The spokesperson stated, "Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient and airlifted them to hospital."

Incident in Bowburn

On Sunday, the team was activated at 8:54 am for an incident in Bowburn, arriving at 9:05 am. The spokesperson said, "Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient and they were taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew."

Sport and Leisure Incident in Hamsterley Forest

Later that morning, at 10:12 am, the team responded to a sport and leisure incident in Hamsterley Forest, arriving at 10:29 am. The patient was assessed and treated with NEAS and taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew.

The GNAAS critical care team, comprising paramedics and doctors, provides life-saving care across the region. This weekend's activity highlights the service's vital role in emergency response.
