Michael Clarke has revealed the sobering results of his most recent skin cancer surgery. The Australian cricket icon, 45, took to Instagram on Friday, sharing a photo that showed him sitting, eyes closed, at his kitchen bench. There was a nasty wound that ran along the bridge of his nose, complete with a raft of stitches – after undergoing the latest skin cancer treatment the day before.
A Timely Reminder
Michael, who was first diagnosed with skin cancer in 2006, said the post was a timely reminder, given that May was Skin Cancer Awareness Month in Australia. 'Today is the start of Skin Cancer Awareness Month. No better time to go and get your skin checked,' he captioned his post. 'Yesterday, I had another cancer removed from my face. Never a nice feeling, but consistent check-ups allow me to have these removed before it’s too late.'
Support from Friends and Followers
Michael's post was met with a flurry of well-wishes and praise from friends and followers. Indian Premier League founder Lalit Modi commented: 'Stay safe my friend. Sorry you are going thru this again. Big big hug.' Michael's former teammate Damien also chimed in with a similar message: 'Well done mate. Glad all okay.' The Australian Skin Cancer Foundation also added its praise for the sporting legend. 'Powerful mate. This is exactly why early detection saves lives. Thank you for using your voice to remind Australians and the world that a simple skin check can make the difference. Proud to stand with you,' they wrote.
Previous Surgeries
Michael took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal that he had undergone another skin cancer procedure. He posted a picture of himself at the Woollahra Clinic with Dr Bish Soliman, following up with the update that he had another melanoma removed. The story post captioned, 'Just had another skin cancer removed from my face. Thank you @DrBishSoliman, @TheWoollahranClinic for looking after me #GETYOURSKINCHECKED.' Michael also underwent surgery in March 2022 and again in August 2025 to have skin cancer removed from his face. The father-of-one was first diagnosed with skin cancer in 2006 and has battled the disease several times since then.
Personal Reflections
He revealed on The Kyle and Jackie O show last November that he’s had multiple melanomas removed from his face and body over the years. 'I've had a number cut out of my face,' he confessed. 'I had one about four weeks ago off my nose, and I see my dermatologist every six months.' Michael also shed light on the treatment he receives following a skin cancer diagnosis. 'The sunspots, I get frozen. Normally, if they're basal cell, I get them cut out... I think I've had seven cut out of my face,' he shared. In August, he took to Instagram to update fans and remind them to get their skin checked. 'Another day, another skin cancer removed,' he wrote over a black and white picture, which showed him sitting in an office with a plaster on his nose. 'Get your skin checked, guys,' he reminded his followers. He also tagged his surgeon, Dr Bish Soliman, adding that he is the 'best in the business'.
Fear for His Daughter
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph in 2023, Michael admitted his skin cancer scares had left him in fear that he might not be around for his daughter, Kelsey Lee. 'It does scare me. I am a dad – I don't want to go anywhere,' he said. 'The most important thing in the world is making sure I help my seven-year-old daughter and I guess set a good example for her.' The sportsman blamed his battle with skin cancers on spending long hours in the sun as a cricketer. 'Imagine fielding all day in India, out there for eight hours in the sun, a lot of the guys are wearing the baggy green cap so you are not protecting your ears or your face,' he told the publication. 'You've got short-sleeved shirts, so your arms and the tops of your hands (are exposed).'
