Ed Sheeran's 14kg Transformation: How Fatherhood Fueled His Fitness Overhaul
Ed Sheeran reveals 14kg weight loss and fitness journey

Global superstar Ed Sheeran has revealed a striking physical transformation, shedding more than 14 kilograms and building muscle in a lifestyle overhaul he directly attributes to becoming a father.

The Catalyst for Change: Embracing Fatherhood

In a candid interview with Men’s Health UK, the 34-year-old singer-songwriter explained how the birth of his first daughter, Lyra, in 2020 with wife Cherry Seaborn, fundamentally shifted his priorities. The couple also welcomed a second daughter, Jupiter, in 2022. Sheeran described a pivotal moment shortly after Lyra's arrival that cemented his decision to get healthier.

"I remember Lyra was two weeks old and I had my best mate round and we had a bottle of wine," Sheeran recalled. "I went to bed, then Lyra woke up 20 minutes after I’d fallen asleep. I woke up and I was like, ‘F*ck, I probably shouldn’t drink if I’m going to feel this dreadful’. I want to be able to do the night stuff."

A New Fitness Regime: From Pilates to 10K Runs

The "Shape of You" hitmaker detailed the specific components of his new routine, which have been central to his 14kg weight loss in recent years. His regimen is a dedicated mix of reformer pilates, weight training, and running—a discipline he only embraced during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I’d never run more than a kilometre and did my first 10K during Covid – stuff like that, building up to that, it just makes you feel better," Sheeran stated. He emphasised that fitness has become a non-negotiable part of his life, adding significant value to his daily routine.

Balancing Act: A Realistic Approach to Health in His Thirties

Sheeran was keen to stress that his transformation isn't about complete deprivation but about sustainable, better choices. He acknowledged his natural inclinations while outlining his current, more moderated reality as a parent in his mid-thirties.

"I think, underneath it all, I am a pizza-eating, beer-guzzling smoker, but that’s just not my reality as a parent in my thirties," he said. "I think that you have to make good decisions. I’m not saying I’m done with enjoying myself, I still drink. I love red wine, I love a nice meal, but it’s not every day."

The singer's health kick coincides with a prolific professional period. He released his eighth studio album, Play, in September 2025, which debuted at number one. After intimate UK and European shows, he is preparing for another mammoth world tour next year to support the record.

Ultimately, Sheeran's fitness transformation is framed not as a pursuit of vanity, but as a practical commitment to being present and capable for his young family—a powerful reason for any lifestyle overhaul.
