Coronation Street Star's Surprising Admission at Grand National Festival
The Aintree Racecourse was buzzing with celebrity energy as the prestigious Grand National Festival kicked off in Liverpool. Among the thousands of racing enthusiasts and socialites gathered for the first day of the historic event were several familiar faces from ITV's long-running soap opera Coronation Street.
Lucy Fallon's Unexpected Confession
Lucy Fallon, who portrays Bethany Platt on the popular television series, made a surprising revelation while enjoying the festival atmosphere. The actress confessed she never watches Coronation Street, despite being a central character on the show for years.
"I don't actually watch Coronation Street," Fallon admitted. "Not because I don't like it, but because I don't like to watch anything I do. Some people like to watch themselves, but I've never ever liked it. So, I don't really watch it and I don't really know what's going on in Corrie at the moment."
Despite her avoidance of watching her own performances, Fallon expressed deep affection for the show and her colleagues. "But I love it at Coronation Street. It's my favourite place, it's my second home. I've lived in the Street more than I've lived in my own house. I've only been in my house since September but I just love it."
Upcoming Storyline Tease and Betting Tips
When questioned about potential future storylines for her character Bethany Platt, Fallon hinted at dramatic developments ahead. "She does have a big storyline coming up. I can't tell you what it is, but it's not going to be great. I don't think people are going to be happy about it. This one is low-key her fault. Everyone is going to be like, 'She is a d**k.' Which is fine. I don't mind what it is as long as it's a good one."
The actress also shared her racing strategy for the day, revealing she had placed her bet on a horse called Koktail Divin based on advice from former co-star Colson Smith. "My boyfriend, Ryan Ledson, likes the horseracing, but his tips so far have been s**t so I'm not going to go with him anymore. I'm going to go with Colson."
Former Corrie Stars Reunite at Aintree
Colson Smith, who played Craig Tinker on Coronation Street from 2011 until 2025, was also present at the festival and expressed his enthusiasm for the northern sporting event. "It's nice to be at a very historic festival. Everyone feels very happy. It's just nice to get out of the house - bit of a treat. Aintree is up in the north, which makes it better. We don't get enough big sporting events in the north of England."
Smith emphasized the cultural significance of the Grand National, noting "This is one of those things that come the weekend all eyes are going to be on it, so it's really nice to go and experience it and be here on one of the days of what is an historic moment of British culture really."
Charlotte Jordan, another former Coronation Street actress who played Daisy Midgeley until 2025, joined the reunion and reported having already won £30 at the races, splitting her winnings with Fallon. "It's lovely here at Aintree. Everyone is super friendly, there's a good vibe around, and I'm having a great time."
Regarding her post-Coronation Street career, Jordan shared "I'm just auditioning. I have a show coming this year on the BBC. It's normal actor life. It's not for the faint-hearted. Life is fantastic."
Additional Celebrity Presence at the Festival
The celebrity gathering extended beyond Coronation Street alumni, with former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson also in attendance. Ferguson commented on the fashion spectacle, particularly praising the efforts of local women. "It's so lovely to see how much effort the Scouse girls put into their outfits, and how well planned it is. People really put a lot of effort in, it's planned months ahead."
Television personality Charlotte Dawson expressed her affection for the Aintree atmosphere, stating "I absolutely love Aintree. It's one of my favourite racecourses. It's just dead glam, dead fun and I just love everyone that's here." Dawson revealed her pink dress was originally intended for a wedding but became her last-minute race day outfit when she decided to attend the festival just days before.
The Grand National Festival continues to attract diverse celebrity attendance each year, blending sporting excitement with entertainment industry glamour in one of Britain's most anticipated annual events.
