Next Steps in Government Formation
Under Thailand's established rules, the new parliament must assemble within 15 days following the certification of results. Once convened, the parliament will first elect a speaker and a deputy speaker. Subsequently, it will proceed to choose a prime minister, who will then initiate the formation of a new government. Coalition Government Plans
The certified election outcomes show Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's Bhumjaithai Party securing the highest number of seats. It is followed by the People's Party and the Pheu Thai Party in the rankings. Bhumjaithai has publicly announced its intention to form a coalition government with the third-place Pheu Thai Party, along with several smaller political groups.
This proposed alliance is projected to hold an estimated 292 seats in parliament, providing a solid majority for governance. A Bhumjaithai party official informed Reuters that the new government is anticipated to commence its operations in April, indicating a relatively prompt start to its administrative duties.
Voter Turnout and Election Participation
The poll body reported that 37.8 million individuals participated in the election held on 8 February 2026. This figure represents 71.42 per cent of all eligible voters, demonstrating a robust level of civic engagement and public interest in the democratic process.
