Ex-Mayor Convicted of Sex with Teen Son’s Friend Amid Bitter Divorce

A former female mayor has been convicted of having sex with a 16-year-old boy, with court filings revealing a bitter war of words with her ex-husband as the scandal unfolded. Misty Roberts, 43, was found guilty on Tuesday of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behaviour with a juvenile, following an incident at a pool party in 2024.

The attack occurred on her own son’s 16th birthday, and the teenager witnessed his mother abusing his friend through a window of the family home in DeRidder, Louisiana. Roberts resigned as mayor shortly before her arrest and now faces up to 17 years in prison.

Divorce filings show that Roberts’s ex-husband, Duncan Clanton, initially supported her after the allegation, praising her as a ‘great mom’ and vowing not to turn his back on her. However, within months, the couple became embroiled in a bitter custody battle, with Clanton seeking full custody of their two children.

The filings include text messages where Clanton accused Roberts of infidelity and demanded she change her surname. The pair also squabbled over smoking habits, with Clanton stating that his addiction was not the cause of their divorce. Roberts wept uncontrollably as the jury delivered its verdict.
