Family of British Tourist Found Dead in Thailand Hotel Seek Answers from Mystery Woman
The family of Joshua Kershaw, a 21-year-old British tourist who was found dead in a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, have intensified their search for answers by publicly sharing a photograph of a mystery woman they urgently wish to speak with. This development comes as Thai authorities have reportedly reopened the investigation into his death, now treating it as a potential case of murder or manslaughter.
Tragic Timeline of Events in Thailand
Joshua Kershaw, originally from Grimsby but living in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, had been on a week-long holiday to the popular tourist resort of Pattaya. According to his mother, Jenny Kershaw, he had been in Thailand for approximately only ten hours before his tragic death on January 13. The young landscaper collapsed in a bar and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died.
His family initially reported him missing when he failed to board a scheduled flight back to the United Kingdom on January 12. After he missed a second flight on January 19, UK authorities classified him as a high-risk missing person, prompting an extensive search. In a heartbreaking Facebook post on Wednesday, January 21, Jenny confirmed that her son had been found dead in Bangkok.
Investigation Reopened with New Forensic Findings
In a significant update shared via social media this Wednesday, Jenny Kershaw revealed that the case has been reopened by Thai investigators. She stated that results from forensic tests showed a combination of seven different substances in Joshua's system at extremely high levels, raising serious concerns and leading authorities to treat the death as a potential murder or manslaughter.
"We have now also been informed that the case in Thailand has been reopened and is currently being investigated as a murder case," Jenny wrote. "We are still waiting for official confirmation from the UK coroner." This shift in the investigation has heightened the family's determination to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Joshua's untimely death.
Urgent Appeal to Identify Mystery Woman
Central to the family's efforts is the identification of an unknown woman who was reportedly with Joshua Kershaw at the time of his death. Jenny has shared a photograph of this individual on Facebook, appealing for public assistance in identifying her. The woman is described as holding Joshua's personal belongings, including his phone and bag, making her a potentially crucial witness.
"We are urgently trying to identify and speak with a woman who was with Joshua Kershaw at the time he sadly passed away in Thailand," Jenny explained. "We have a photo of her, but we don’t know her name. If you recognise yourself in this or know who she is, please get in touch as soon as possible. It’s really important for us to speak with her."
The family has asked people to share the post widely to reach as many individuals as possible, hoping that someone might recognise the woman and come forward with information.
Community Support and Repatriation Efforts
In the wake of this tragedy, the community has rallied around the Kershaw family. A GoFundMe page was established to help cover the costs of repatriating Joshua's body to the UK and funding his funeral. Last month, his remains were brought back to Britain, and a funeral service was held at Wakefield Crematorium, providing some closure while the search for answers continues.
As the investigation progresses, the family remains hopeful that speaking with the mystery woman will shed light on the events leading to Joshua's death. They emphasise that any information, no matter how small, could be vital in achieving justice for their son.
