ICE Issues Detainer for Honduran Teen Charged in Fatal Ambush of Missouri Boy

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer for an 18-year-old Honduran man, Yefry Archaga-Elvir, who faces charges in the killing of a 15-year-old boy in Springfield, Missouri. The victim, Miles Young, was allegedly lured to his death under the false impression he was meeting a girl, according to court records and federal authorities.

Details of the Alleged Ambush and Shooting

On March 12, authorities report that Archaga-Elvir and others orchestrated a vicious ambush, boxing in Young's vehicle with their own cars in Springfield. When Young exited his car and attempted to flee, Archaga-Elvir allegedly chased him down and shot him. Witnesses state that Young's last words were, 'I just don't want to die,' before he was fatally wounded in the chest and later pronounced dead at Cox South Hospital.

Investigators believe the motive for the shooting stemmed from Young being a witness to an earlier murder and set to testify in court. Despite warnings not to attend the meetup, Young ignored the advice, only realizing he had walked into a trap as vehicles circled him. His final cry was followed by gunshots, per court documents.

ICE's Strong Condemnation and Legal Actions

In a public announcement, ICE requested Missouri authorities not grant pre-trial release to Archaga-Elvir, describing him as a 'monstrous illegal alien' who carried out a 'vicious ambush.' Lauren Bis, acting assistant secretary of ICE's Office of Public Affairs, stated, 'Miles Young was lured to his death believing he was going to meet a girl. Instead, he was ambushed and killed in cold blood by this illegal alien who went on to brag about the murder.'

Bis further commented, 'This animal was released into our country by the Obama administration. ICE lodged an arrest detainer requesting Missouri not release this depraved killer from jail into American neighborhoods.' According to federal immigration authorities, Archaga-Elvir was first arrested in Texas as an accompanied minor in 2015.

Aftermath and Additional Suspects

After allegedly shooting Young, Archaga-Elvir 'made a phone call' about the incident and 'was braggadocious' about the killing, as noted in a police probable cause affidavit. He fled the scene and was arrested on March 31 following a two-week manhunt, with a court appearance scheduled for April 13.

A second suspect, Praize King, 18, also faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges for allegedly joining the ambush. At least one other suspect, believed to be a juvenile, remains unidentified. Authorities emphasize that Young was targeted due to his role as a witness in a trial concerning a 2025 murder.

Remembering Miles Young

Young's family described him as a 'compassionate, loving, and kind 15-year-old who brought light to everyone around him.' In a GoFundMe post, they wrote, 'He was a big brother, a son, a grandson, and a friend. He had a beautiful heart, was full of life, and always showed care for others.'

The family added, 'Just a couple of weeks before his passing, Miles made a heartfelt decision at church, giving his heart to Jesus during an altar call. It felt as though God was beginning to prepare him for his journey home. His loss has left his family, friends, and community heartbroken, as no parent should ever have to outlive and bury their child.'
