In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, a married music teacher has admitted to sexually abusing a schoolboy and becoming pregnant by him, with the crimes unfolding against a backdrop of professional maternity photoshoots. Naomi Tekea Craig, aged 33, entered guilty pleas to 15 charges related to child exploitation in Mandurah Local Court this week, just two weeks after giving birth to her second child.
Court Proceedings and Charges
Appearing via audio link on Tuesday, Craig responded "Guilty, your honour" to each charge read aloud by Magistrate Clare Cullen. The charges included multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13, sexual penetration of a child over 13 and under 16, indecent dealings with a child under 13, and possessing child exploitation material. The abuse reportedly began on October 31, 2024, and continued until December 16, with twelve incidents occurring in Silver Sands and three in Meadow Springs, suburbs of Mandurah, about 70km south of Perth.
Maternity Photoshoots Amid Abuse
In a troubling twist, The Daily Mail has revealed that Craig participated in several professional maternity photoshoots in November and December, just days before her arrest and while the abuse was ongoing. The photos, shared on social media before being deleted, showed her posing in suggestive outfits, including a leopard print two-piece and zebra-inspired jeans with undone buttons, to showcase her pregnancy bump. Photographers described her as a "Christina Aguilera doppelgänger" and an "absolute bombshell," with one post from December 7 praising her as "fierce, wild, beautifully chaotic."
Victim's Claims and DNA Evidence
The now-13-year-old victim, who is not a student at Frederick Irwin Anglican School where Craig taught, provided a DNA sample to investigators. However, he had already claimed on social media in January that "no DNA test needed," expressing certainty about paternity and pondering whether the baby might resemble him. He also speculated about the possibility of a daughter taking after her mother.
School and Community Impact
Craig was a music teacher at the Anglican school, often praised in newsletters for her involvement in choir and music performances. In October 2024, she was pictured on the school's website working with children aged 5 to 12 at a "battle of the band rock concert," wearing a Nirvana t-shirt and smiling on stage. Following her arrest, Principal Tracey Gray sent a letter to parents confirming the alleged victim was not a student and that the teacher had been instructed not to attend the school, assuring there was no concern for children at the institution.
Bail and Legal Proceedings
Craig was represented by top Perth lawyer Reid Hogan in court. Magistrate Cullen noted that the guilty pleas would expedite the case to the District Court for a sentence mention listing on March 27, where Craig must appear in person. She was granted bail with conditions requiring $20,000 personally and a $50,000 surety, continuing until the next mention. Craig is banned from seeing anyone under 18, including her older child, without supervision, with the only exception being her newborn.
Personal Circumstances
Craig gave birth on January 8 and was on maternity leave when arrested. She and her husband had purchased their first home in Meadow Springs for about $700,000 in June, but neighbours described it as a "fixer-upper" with significant renovations needed, noting the couple had barely been at the property. After court, Craig's husband dropped their older child off at her parents' place, highlighting the family's disrupted life amid the scandal.
