Alison Hammond has secured yet another presenting role, this time hosting ITV's revival of the classic game show Name That Tune. The programme, which originally aired on ITV in 1976 with Tom O'Connor at the helm, is making a comeback after nearly three decades.
Format and Premise
Contestants will face off in various rounds testing their music knowledge across all genres. To reach the finale, they must correctly identify songs. The UK version last aired on Channel 5 in 1998, but ITV's reboot draws inspiration from the American adaptation, which has run for five seasons on Fox, hosted by Jane Krakowski with Randy Jackson as bandleader.
Hammond's Excitement
In a statement, Hammond expressed her enthusiasm: "As a massive music lover, my biggest challenge as a host will be trying not to grab the mic and start singing along when one of my all-time favourite tunes comes on!" She added, "I grew up absolutely loving the original show so being part of this now feels like a real full-circle moment." Hammond promised a bigger, louder, and more feel-good experience, highlighting the involvement of the Name That Tune band.
History of the Show
Hammond becomes the fourth presenter of the UK format. Tom O'Connor hosted from 1976 to 1983, followed by Lionel Blair until 1987. Jools Holland revived the show for Channel 5 in 1997 but only for one series. The format also appeared in Vernon Kay's Gameshow Marathon (2007) and Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow (2021).
Hammond's Other Commitments
This marks Hammond's third active presenting job. She currently hosts Channel 4's Your Song and The Great British Bake Off alongside Noel Fielding. Despite rumours of joining Strictly Come Dancing, Hammond initially claimed scheduling clashes but later backtracked, stating she could manage both roles.
The revival of Name That Tune is set to bring music trivia back to British screens with a modern twist, promising entertainment for music lovers and quiz enthusiasts alike.
