Snoop Dogg Takes to the Ice in Curling Cameo at Winter Olympics

American rapper and sports enthusiast Snoop Dogg made a memorable appearance at the Winter Olympics in Cortina, northern Italy, where he served as an honorary coach for Team USA's curling team. The musician, also acting as a special correspondent for broadcaster NBC, attended Friday's mixed doubles curling match, immersing himself in the action.

From Flame Carrier to Curling Enthusiast

Just days after carrying the Olympic flame through the streets of Gallarate on Wednesday, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, delighted attendees by engaging with athletes. He particularly charmed British curler Bruce Mouat, requesting a photo with him during the event. Mouat, who secured silver in the 2022 Beijing Games with the men's team, shared his excitement about the encounter.

"We saw him at half-time," Mouat recounted, referring to himself and his doubles partner Jennifer Dodds. "We saw he was sat next to (US curler) Cory (Thiesse)'s mum. He asked for a photo with us, so I am feeling pretty good about myself."

Snoop Dogg's Hands-On Curling Experience

Not content with just watching from the sidelines, Snoop Dogg took to the ice himself to try his hand at curling. He attempted sweeping a stone towards the target area known as the house, showcasing his enthusiasm for the sport. Dressed in a USA jacket adorned with photos of curlers Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin, he celebrated as the American pair clinched a 7-5 victory over Canada.

Curling, a sport with roots dating back to 16th-century Scotland, involves players sliding granite stones toward a scoring circle. Sweepers use brooms to rub the ice ahead of the stone, smoothing its trajectory for better accuracy.

A Multifaceted Sports Figure

Snoop Dogg's involvement in sports extends beyond this Olympic appearance. A dedicated sports fan, he is the co-owner of Championship football club Swansea City and previously worked as a correspondent for NBC at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His role at the Winter Olympics highlights his ongoing commitment to athletic events and his ability to bridge entertainment with sports.

This unique blend of celebrity and sport has added a vibrant touch to the Winter Olympics, drawing attention to curling and fostering memorable interactions between stars and athletes.
