BAFTA TV Awards Worst Dressed: Christine McGuinness Leads Fashion Fails
BAFTA TV Awards: Christine McGuinness Leads Worst Dressed

For every award-winning look on a red carpet, a fashion fail often follows behind. At Sunday evening's BAFTA Television Awards at the Royal Festival Hall, stars hit the red carpet in an array of glamorous, quirky, and risqué ensembles. Leading some of the more questionable looks of the evening was Christine McGuinness, who left little to the imagination in an eye-popping number that defied the cardinal rule of showing either legs or cleavage, but not both.

Other Fashion Faux Pas

Joining her in the faux pas camp was TikToker Joe Baggs, who opted for a Beetlejuice-inspired ensemble, while Love Island star Cach Mercer appeared to have missed the evening's glam memo, instead choosing a lumberjack look. His Love Island co-star Shakira Khan, meanwhile, seemed to have overdone the glitz, sashaying along the red carpet in an aggressively blingy dress adorned with a hip brooch, a ruffled slit, and a tight bust.

Nominees and Highlights

The BAFTA Television Awards, hosted by Greg Davies, were broadcast at 7pm on Sunday, May 10, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Nominations were announced in March, with Stephen Graham leading the way with a total of 11 nominations for his drama Adolescence and seven for his Disney+ series A Thousand Blows. The series, created by actor Stephen, 52, and writer Jack Thorne, tells the story of British teenager Jamie Miller, who is found guilty of murdering a female classmate after being influenced by the manosphere online. Each episode is filmed in one continuous shot and has been widely praised for addressing topics such as online radicalisation and misogyny. It is up for Limited Drama and Leading Actor, including the Craft Awards.

Prime Video's Last One Laughing will compete against the all-stars version of The Traitors, with show star Bob Mortimer up for Best Entertainment Performance.

Pre-Ceremony and Performances

Before the ceremony, Fleur East and Roman Kemp presented live on the red carpet on BAFTA's YouTube channel. The Celebrity Traitors star Cat Burns performed How To Be Human, while for the In Memoriam segment, Norwegian singer-songwriter AURORA performed Through the Eyes of a Child from the BAFTA-nominated Netflix series Adolescence.

Special Awards

The BAFTA Fellowship was presented to Dame Mary Berry DBE, and Martin Lewis CBE received the BAFTA Television Special Award. Dame Mary Berry said of the honour: 'I couldn't believe it was true, what a huge honour to be presented with the BAFTA Fellowship. For over 50 years, I have enjoyed every moment of teaching my passion on television and I thank all the generous professionals along the way who have given me guidance and support - and I am still learning. This amazing BAFTA Fellowship is the icing on the cake!'
