Britney Spears has described her recent DUI arrest as a 'blessing in disguise' in her first public comments since being sentenced to probation and completing a stint in rehabilitation. The 44-year-old singer took to Instagram on Saturday to share her reflections on what she called a 'spiritual journey.'
Speaks Out After Sentencing
Just days after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge and receiving 12 months of probation, Spears posted a photograph of a yellow and white snake, accompanied by a lengthy caption. 'Went to the pet store with my kids and look at what a beautiful baby snake this is,' she wrote. 'Snakes are symbolic of good health, higher consciousness, and pure luck... I'm so damn thankful to my friends and so many new beautiful people I have met through my spiritual journey... all a blessing in disguise...'
The 'Baby One More Time' hitmaker added that she still needs 'to learn how to be kind to myself and the way I speak to myself... It's a never ending journey and sometimes I just stop, look up and say wow God I think that was you and smile on!!!!'
Legal Proceedings and Rehab
Spears was arrested on suspicion of DUI on March 4, two months before her court appearance. At her arraignment on Monday, she pleaded guilty through her attorney, Michael Goldstein, and was sentenced to 12 months probation, one day in jail (already served), a $721 fine, and a three-month alcohol and drug education program. She was also ordered to see a psychologist weekly and a psychiatrist twice a month, and to abstain from alcohol and non-prescription drugs. Her vehicle is subject to warrantless searches if she is pulled over again.
Following her arrest, Spears voluntarily entered Borden Cottage in Maine, a luxury rehab facility where minimum stays cost up to $140,000. She remained there for less than three weeks.
Family Reunion Missed
Spears was notably absent from a rare family reunion this weekend, as her niece Maddie, daughter of sister Jamie Lynn Spears, celebrated her high school graduation. Attendees included her mother Lynn, father Jamie, and son Sean Preston. Spears shares sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. When asked by photographers about his mother's rehab stay, Jayden replied 'no comment' but nodded affirmatively when asked if she was 'doing good.'
