Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have been left virtually marooned in their new multi-million pound Cotswolds farmhouse after it was swamped by flooding just days after they moved in. The couple, who emigrated from the US following Donald Trump's election victory, have seen their 43-acre property engulfed by water after a tributary of the River Thames burst its banks during Storm Bert.
Roads surrounding the property have been left impassable, with up to five feet of floodwater in some areas, leaving locals trapped in their homes. One resident said: 'The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years.' The dramatic scenes are a stark contrast to the sunny California life the couple left behind.
According to US media, DeGeneres and de Rossi decided to 'get the hell out' after Trump's victory, having donated to Kamala Harris's campaign. They reportedly paid £2.5 million over the asking price for the property, which includes a helicopter pad, swimming pool, gym, and six bedrooms. The area is known for its celebrity residents, but a local source described it as 'very quiet, some might even say boring'.
Before the floods, the couple were seen enjoying a night out at Jeremy Clarkson's pub, The Farmer's Dog, where they were entertained by The Corrs alongside James Blunt and Natalie Imbruglia.
