Caroline Harker, who plays Dr Todd in Emmerdale, has shed light on her character's motives as she continues to torment Jacob Sugden and Charity Dingle. After weeks of bullying medical student Jacob, Todd is now blackmailing Charity over her baby lie while pursuing a romance with Charity's ex, Vanessa Woodfield.
Speaking to The Mirror, Harker explained that Todd's bullying of Jacob was not premeditated but escalated gradually. 'She just pushes it, pushes it, pushes it, until she's stopped,' Harker said. 'Her standards are really high and she wanted Jacob to have those standards too... but she didn't know she was going to go quite as dark as she's gone.'
Regarding Todd's feelings for Vanessa, Harker revealed they may be genuine despite Todd's manipulative nature. 'I think that she doesn't mean it genuinely in the first place, but between you and me, I think she does,' she said. 'But the desire to do dodgy things is stronger. Poor old Vanessa!'
Harker also teased potential future targets, including Manpreet Sharma, saying Todd might turn on her once she gets the money she's after. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
