A string of suicides and suspicious deaths among those linked to the Epstein files has deepened the sense of conspiracy surrounding the scandal. The disgraced financier operated in an unusual orbit, with high-profile names appearing in millions of documents, including phone and bank records, photographs, and emails. However, inclusion in the files does not imply wrongdoing.
Epstein's own death remains shrouded in mystery. A document in the files announced his death a day before it occurred. Many claim he was murdered while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking minors, despite the official ruling of suicide. The question of why anyone would want to kill the apparent mastermind of the operation persists.
Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's co-conspirator, recently appeared before the House Oversight Committee. She has denied accusations of keeping a black book of associates for blackmail. Hidden cameras were found in Epstein's Palm Beach house, adding to suspicions that he made his millions by blackmailing wealthy friends.
In the UK, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Peter Mandelson have been arrested and questioned by police on suspicion of passing sensitive documents to Epstein while in public roles. An email from Maxwell reportedly confirms that a photo of Andrew with Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre is genuine, which the former duke has denied.
The files include names such as Donald Trump, Richard Branson, Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, Kevin Spacey, Sarah Ferguson, and Elon Musk. Even Stephen Hawking appears in a photo with two bikini-clad women, though his family insists they were his carers. Many believe the files are just the tip of the iceberg.
Victims have claimed they were groomed as minors by Maxwell to provide massages and sexual favours to Epstein and his friends. One accuser alleged that Andrew watched her being tortured with electrical shocks at Frogmore Cottage. Another claimed she was drugged and taken to paedophile ring parties between the ages of six and eight. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking, but she has remained silent, citing her fifth amendment rights.
