Rylan Clark declared 'I'm done' live on BBC Radio 2 this weekend after expressing frustration over being repeatedly overlooked for awards. The former X Factor star, who hosts the weekend show, admitted that the snubs are 'killing me' before handing over the reins to his co-stars following an on-air mix-up.
Quiz Confusion Leads to Frustration
Things took a turn during Rylan's regular Couch Potatoes quiz when he was given incorrect information about which listener to speak to first. He introduced the first contestant as Matt, but was actually speaking to Mark, the second contestant. Rylan told his producer Simon to 'just admit you got it wrong' and later jokingly exclaimed: 'Oh no, this is ridiculous! Right, hang on a minute, is there a ghost or something? What is going on? Everyone stop! Stop, collaborate and listen, stop!'
Explaining the mix-up, Rylan said: 'I was just told that I was speaking to Matt, then I was speaking to Mark and then four people started talking... and it all just got a bit confusing.'
Award Snub Sparks Outburst
After clarifying the confusion, Rylan asked Matt how he was, to which the listener replied: 'I'm not bad! Firstly, how you're not up for an award for your show, I just don't know!' Rylan responded with a cheeky swipe at The ARIAS (The Audio and Radio Industry Awards): 'Thank you, thank you! Do you know what I mean? Always snubbed at The ARIAS even though I host the thing. It kills me, I'm the host of it and I can't even get a nomination!'
Rylan then faced further interruptions from Simon about the quiz format, prompting him to hand over hosting duties to producer Lotte Uttley and traffic reporter Sally Boazman. He explained: 'Simon is talking in my ear again, I'm just going to put this out there, Simon is going, 'Mark's first, it's clear in the script', I said, 'yes, but Mark was our original champion, right? So I thought our new champion would go first this week'. We've had this conversation three times, Simon!'
Rylan added: 'Lotte, Sally, do you know what? Lotte, for today, do you know what's going to happen? You're going to ask the questions, I'm going to be a lifeline. I'm done! Come round here, come round here, now you can see what I have to put up with!'
After a song, Lotte took over the quiz, telling listeners: 'Well, apparently, we're back for Couch Potatoes. Now, a little bit of a change of plan...' Sally chimed in: 'Rylan's having a tantrum,' to which Rylan quipped: 'I've had enough!' Despite the chaos, Rylan later expressed pride in Lotte for stepping in, especially as she had admitted to feeling nervous about reading live on air due to her dyslexia.
