Kate Middleton's 'Where Next?' Request After Italy Visit Signals New Era
Kate Middleton's 'Where Next?' After Italy Trip

Following her successful trip to Italy, her first overseas one since her cancer treatment, Kate Middleton reportedly made a quick two-word request to her staff. The Princess of Wales travelled to the Italian city of Florence on a fact-finding mission for her Centre for Early Childhood that involved learning about the Reggio Emilia Approach to the education of children.

Her visit, seen as a major moment in her recovery, reportedly triggered a question by the future Queen. The Times reports that, after her learning experience on the trip, she told her team: "Where next?"

According to the publication, her eagerness to explore future destinations is aimed at "protecting human connection" in a world increasingly shaped by digital distractions — something she believes "has become one of the defining challenges of our time."

A New Era for the Princess

Following the 44-year-old's enthusiasm over the trip, a spokesperson for Kensington Palace suggested that this could mark a new era for Kate. They said: "She was extremely inspired by what she saw this week and will be really pushing the team to quickly find out where's next on the map. This is the first chapter in a much broader global effort led by the princess."

Upon arriving in Italy, Kate was greeted by large cheers from the crowd as she was met by the city's mayor, Marco Massari, in the city's Piazza Prampolini in front of a massive public reception.

Kate's solo trip abroad is her first since it was announced that she had gone into remission from the disease in January 2025. Although it has been over a year since the announcement of her remission, her recovery has been gradual.

Royal Commentary

Furthermore, according to former royal correspondent Jennie Bond, this trip marked an important moment for the princess, especially when it comes to the evolution of her role within the Royal Family. She told the Mirror: "This is certainly a welcome milestone in Catherine's journey to full recovery, and the King will be delighted. He undoubtedly trusts her implicitly to represent the Royal Family both at home and abroad."

Jennie added that it would be considered an especially big moment for both the King and Kate's husband, future monarch Prince William. She said: "She has a star quality that no other royal can bring to an occasion. And that's a valuable asset for the monarchy. William will be equally pleased, and proud, to see his wife undertake an official solo trip abroad — it speaks volumes about her growing self-confidence after such a devastating health scare."

Kate's enthusiasm about potential future trips came after Jennie said that this trip would be a test and that, if Kate felt comfortable, there could be more in the future. She said: "If she feels comfortable about it, this visit will no doubt be the gateway to further official trips overseas… But Catherine has made it clear that her health and her family still come first… so we shall all just have to be patient."
