Jurgen Klopp has confirmed he is in talks to become the next Germany head coach after Julian Nagelsmann stepped down following the World Cup exit. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have decided to keep long-term Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni, dealing a blow to the Reds' transfer plans.
Klopp Confirms Talks for Germany Job
Speaking as a pundit on German broadcaster Magenta, Klopp revealed he is in discussions with the German Football Association (DFB) to replace Nagelsmann, who resigned after Germany's penalty shootout loss to Paraguay in the World Cup round of 16. Klopp currently serves as Red Bull's global head of soccer, a role he has held for 19 months.
“Yes, I can confirm the talks,” Klopp told Magenta. “Things moved pretty quickly. Julian stepped down. The DFB are looking for a successor. And they’re talking to me.” He added that he expects Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff not to block the move: “I assume he won’t stand in the way. I’ve been there for 19 months. It was an intense time. I’m ready.”
Klopp emphasized that Nagelsmann should not bear sole blame for Germany's problems: “The problems we currently have cannot be pinned only on Julian Nagelsmann. Julian is an exceptional coach, and he will be able to prove that time and again throughout his coaching career.”
Real Madrid Decide to Keep Tchouameni
Liverpool's pursuit of midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has hit a dead end, as Real Madrid's new manager Jose Mourinho has decided to keep the Frenchman. Tchouameni, 26, has been a key figure in Madrid's recent successes and has been linked with a move to Anfield since Klopp's tenure. According to TEAMtalk, both Liverpool and Manchester United expressed interest, but Mourinho has put the brakes on any departure.
The report states that Tchouameni “will be given the opportunity to establish himself as a guaranteed starter next season” under Mourinho, who is in his second spell at the Bernabeu. Liverpool had hoped to land the midfielder this summer after signing winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna and defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60m. However, the failure to sign Ivorian winger Yan Diomande, who chose Paris Saint-Germain, has already disrupted their transfer plans.
Liverpool's Summer Transfer Outlook
The Reds have been quiet since the early signings of Munoz and Jacquet. With Tchouameni off the table and Diomande opting for PSG, manager Andoni Iraola faces a challenging window to strengthen the squad. The club may now turn to alternative targets as they prepare for the new season.
