Kobbie Mainoo struck a priceless winner for Manchester United to fire them back into the Champions League after they had relinquished a two-goal lead against Liverpool in a thrilling encounter at Old Trafford.
United took just six minutes to break the deadlock when Matheus Cunha drove a strike beyond Liverpool goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. Minutes later, Bruno Fernandes headed towards goal, and Woodman could only divert the ball onto the thigh of Benjamin Sesko, who bundled it home from close range to double the lead.
However, Liverpool fought back in the second half. Dominik Szoboszlai arrowed a low strike into the bottom corner after United turned over possession, and Cody Gakpo capitalised on a goalkeeping error from Senne Lammens to level the game at 2-2.
With the match seemingly slipping away, Mainoo took centre stage, thundering a superb strike beyond Woodman to secure a dramatic victory and a first league double over Liverpool for Manchester United since 2016.
The win confirms United's return to the Champions League, while Liverpool were without key players including Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak.
