Manchester United are at a pivotal juncture in their pursuit of Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo this summer. With transfer funds limited, the outcome could shape their other dealings in the upcoming months.
United's initial £55 million bid was reportedly rejected by Brentford, who are demanding £60 million for the Cameroon international. Despite a dismal 15th-place Premier League finish and no European football next season, Mbeumo has reportedly changed his mind and now favours a move to Old Trafford over Arsenal, Newcastle, or Tottenham.
To fund the deal, United could sell Alejandro Garnacho, with AC Milan reportedly opening negotiations for a £50 million transfer. That would fall short of United's valuation but could still be enough to push through the Mbeumo signing, given manager Ruben Amorim's rocky relationship with the 20-year-old Argentine.
Alternatively, United could retain Garnacho and find other means to raise funds. However, any sale would raise questions about squad balance, as Mbeumo primarily plays on the right wing, where Amad Diallo has recently impressed. The club must weigh immediate needs against long-term development.
Mbeumo finished the season with 20 goals and eight assists in 38 league appearances, representing a proven Premier League upgrade. Yet the financial juggling will significantly impact how much United can spend on other areas this summer.
