Ryan Reynolds' Financial Empire and Personal Journey Amid New Wrexham Challenge
Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian actor and entrepreneur, continues to capture headlines not just for his football club's remarkable ascent but for his substantial personal wealth and life story. Reynolds, alongside business partner Rob McElhenney, has transformed the Welsh club's fortunes since their 2021 takeover, with Wrexham now competing in the Championship and eyeing Premier League promotion.
Substantial Net Worth Built Through Diverse Ventures
Estimates place Ryan Reynolds' net worth at approximately £300 million, a figure accumulated through multiple income streams. While his acting career provided significant earnings from blockbuster roles like Deadpool and Detective Pikachu, his business acumen has proven equally lucrative.
Major financial windfalls include a reported £200 million from selling his stake in telecommunications company Mint Mobile, plus substantial proceeds from the 2020 sale of Aviation Gin to Diageo. Most recently, Reynolds and McElhenney sold an undisclosed stake in Wrexham AFC to American investment firm Apollo Sports Capital, with the club now valued around £350 million.
Previous Marriage and Current Family Life
Before his current marriage to actress Blake Lively, Reynolds was previously wed to Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson. The couple's marriage lasted over two years before they announced their separation in late 2010.
In a joint statement at the time, they stated: "After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it."
Reynolds and Lively married in 2012 and now have four children together: James, Inez, Betty and Olin.
New Broadcasting Responsibility with Sky Sports
Reynolds and McElhenney will make their live commentary debut this month on Sky Sports during a special programme titled 'Live from Wrexham with Rob and Ryan'. The broadcast will focus on Wrexham's Championship fixture against Swansea City, with just five points separating the rivals before kickoff.
In a joint statement about their broadcasting venture, the owners humorously acknowledged their inexperience: "As with our decision to take over Wrexham five years ago, we genuinely have no idea how this is going to go, but we will give it our best. Neither of us have called a sporting event of any variety, let alone a sport we basically learned the rules of five years ago."
The duo expressed gratitude to the EFL and Sky Sports, jokingly suggesting the broadcaster should be prepared with the bleep button during their commentary.
Wrexham's Remarkable Football Journey
Since Reynolds and McElhenney's takeover, Wrexham has achieved consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship. Despite a recent home defeat to Hull City, the club remains in contention for Premier League promotion this season, marking an extraordinary transformation under their Hollywood ownership.
The owners' frequent visits to Wales and hands-on approach have endeared them to supporters, while their business decisions continue to shape the club's future both on and off the pitch.
