Izzy Hammond Provides Health Update Following Horror Formula E Crash
Izzy Hammond, the 25-year-old daughter of television presenter Richard Hammond, has spoken out after being involved in a terrifying high-speed crash during a Formula E Evo Series influencer event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred on Sunday, February 16, 2026, when Hammond lost control of her car and smashed sideways into a wall, destroying the vehicle and scattering debris across the track.
Details of the Accident and Immediate Aftermath
In a series of social media updates shared with her 284,000 followers, Hammond described the crash as dramatic and admitted she may have suffered a concussion. She reported having a sore neck but emphasized that she was largely unscathed and able to walk away from the accident. Hammond explained that the crash likely resulted from insufficient heat in her tyres during the warm-up lap, causing her to lose control while braking and turning simultaneously.
She stated, "I hit the wall at 24Gs. My neck hurts a little bit, but I am absolutely fine so thank you for everyone that’s concerned. I’m fine, this stuff happens. Now I can say I am a proper racing driver. I have had a monumental crash. I’m going to bed now and sleep off my concussion."
Apologies to Team and Reflections on the Incident
Hammond expressed deep regret to her team, Lola, for damaging their car, apologizing profusely in her videos. She noted that despite the crash, she had performed well in qualifying earlier, achieving the best time. The incident brought back memories for the Hammond family, as it occurred two decades after her father Richard's near-fatal Top Gear accident, where he crashed a jet-powered dragster at 288mph and spent two weeks in a medically induced coma.
In a separate video, Hammond added, "I crashed in quite dramatic fashion and I’m really sorry. I want to officially state, on the record, that I am so sorry Lola, I really didn’t mean to ruin your car. When I was sat at the wall, I looked to my left and I saw a bit of car on the track. I did not even know what part of the car it was."
Recovery and Positive Outlook
Despite the scare, Hammond maintained a positive attitude, highlighting that she was alive and had enjoyed the experience overall. She praised her team members for their skills and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event. The crash has drawn significant attention due to her family's history with racing incidents, but Hammond's resilience and quick recovery have been noted by fans and observers alike.
She concluded, "At no point did I think I was going to put it into the wall, I was pretty confident and then it all went a little bit wrong. But, I’m alive, the car is less alive, but I had a great time. Yeah the boys on my team are ridiculously good. They are like, actually, properly good at racing. So, that’s fine, they’ve won it, I was just here for fun, for the drama."
