Prince Harry announced on Tuesday that Uganda has become the 26th member of the Invictus Community of Nations, a move widely seen as an attempt to shift attention from his devastating court defeat hours earlier. The announcement came during the Invictus Games Conversation at Chatham House in London, where attendees gave a standing ovation.
Court Defeat Details
Earlier on Tuesday, Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed all 14 of Harry's unlawful information-gathering claims against Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL), publisher of the Daily Mail. The trial concluded in March, and the written verdict was delivered on the same day Harry began his week-long UK visit for the Invictus Games. Each claim was thrown out, marking a complete legal loss for the Duke of Sussex.
Invictus Games Expansion
The Invictus Games Foundation confirmed Uganda's membership via Instagram, stating the country is the 26th nation to join. Harry, 41, personally welcomed Uganda during the event. The announcement was made public just hours after the court ruling, leading to speculation about timing.
Royal Visit and Family Absence
Harry arrived in the UK on Monday afternoon without his wife, Meghan Markle, or their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. The family has not visited the UK since 2022 due to safety concerns after losing taxpayer-funded police protection. It remains unclear where Harry is staying during his trip; King Charles reportedly offered a royal residence, but the offer was withdrawn after Harry accepted too late.
